The Country Vintner of West Virginia provides fine wines to resorts, restaurants and wine retail shops throughout the state.
More than three thousand products are available for purchase through any of these outlets. We add many new products to our
selection each year through careful evaluation that assures the continuing high quality standard by which we are known.
An Icon wine is a wine of very exceptional quality. It is achieved by a combination of factors, starting with selection of
the site in which the vineyard is to be located. Planted in exactly the right soil and climate, a vine can express itself
very specifically. There are many kinds of reinforcement factors, such as forcing low yield by trimming grapes from the vine
so the plant can put its whole life force into the remaining clusters. These are the beginning steps toward producing a
superior, hand-crafted wine. Gentle harvesting of grapes in a clean environment allows nature to express optimum flavors of
the grape variety. The chemistry of the maturing wine is carefully monitored to achieve the concentration and acidity desired
by the winemaker. Aging the wines in wood barrels or stainless steel will also contribute its own unique character to the wine.
The finished products are evaluated by respected professionals who rank the wines generally by score. Only the finest achieve
Icon status.
The Country Vintner of West Virginia selects wines that receive considerable attention to detail every step of the way in the
production process. We visit all the vineyards of our producers. We import many special selections directly from icon quality
vineyards all over the world.
